Sometimes It Just Takes Me A Minute

Yesterday I bought a very large and heavy box containing ten reams of copy paper for the church office. I nearly reinstated my 1981 hernia as I heaved the box into my trunk.

Today's task was clearly getting the box from the trunk to the office. Premonitions of chiropractic visits plagued me. I parked close, contemplated bugging the resident contractors, but finally decided that my best hope was a dolly. I was walking across the church campus to ask a trustee where I might find one, when a sudden thought u-turned me in my tracks.

Open the box.

  1. I applaud you for making public the kind of 'duh' moment most of us pretend don't happen.

  2. I've done that before...how am I going to get this home in my car? Oh...duh...take the two pieces out of 3' x 4' box and watch it fit very nicely without all that extra packaging!

  4. You had a hernia in 1981? That's a mighty youthful hernia ma'am.

  6. Who says the Holy Spirit only does sermons? We have some large riser racks in the choir room. They are meant to move the risers from choir room to sanctuary--which has only happened once in five years. They are in the way, possible dangerous--but no one could think of a closet/room/other space big enough to store them. Much debate has ensued. I was in the choir room the other day and it hit me----those racks are screwed together . . . .

  7. You are too young for this to be happening.

  8. This reminds me of a great story involving my now-19, but then 6-year-old son. I might have to blog it as I do a count down to Half-Empty Nest Day.

  9. I guess I'm de-lurking here, so "Hey, everybody!"

When I'm not lurking, I'm the pastor of a 200 member Disciples of Christ congregation. I used to buy all the office office supplies for our congregation at the warehouse club and then faced the same dilemma: who's gonna lug this stuff into the church?

Then I discovered that Offi*ceMax.com will deliver FREE on orders over $50. The nice young guys who deliver the supplies will even unload the cases of copy paper into the storage space if you ask nicely. AND, once you start doing business with them, they start sending you coupons for $30 off on a $150 order and stuff like that.

With the coupons, it turns out that it's CHEAPER to the church to order through them (not to mention the value of their pastor's hernia-free time).

    Just a suggestion ...

P.S. - I am sure that Offic*eDepot and Sta*ples have similar deals. We've gotten the most reliable service from Offi*ceMax.
